The origins of Coolongalook date back to 2011. Despite having a Master's degree in Environmental Science obtained in 2010, Mathieu Dumon was unable to find a position that matched his education and skills. Faced with real questions about his future, an idea emerged: create an adventure park that closely linked his academic expertise, his environmental sensitivity, and his experience in this outdoor sport, which he had practiced as an employee throughout his five years of university studies. He then embarked on the creation of what would become "Coolongalook Adventure Park."
Two years of intensive work culminated in the opening, on April 20, 2013, of a premium adventure park that is integrated and environmentally friendly.
This name comes from the Australian Aboriginal language (Mathieu completed his 3rd year at the University of Sydney… 😄). It means "the one who loves to climb" or refers to "a high-perched place" depending on the translation (there are approximately 200 Aboriginal dialects).
In 2013, it became the first treetop adventure park in the world to be fully equipped with a continuous safety line on Koala Equipment® pulleys.
Our park is located in an exceptional setting in the heart of a 20-hectare mixed peri-urban forest in Royan, where biodiversity is showcased and highly appreciated by its visitors. Pedunculate oak, maritime pine, chestnut, wild service tree, hawthorn, common gorse, wild cherry, and so many other species are there to be discovered… Coolongalook guarantees an escape as intense as it is unexpected.
The park's layout was carefully designed to respect and highlight its biodiversity, ensuring our visitors and "climbers" find a true connection with nature. This human-nature connection is particularly close to our hearts, which is why we are committed to showcasing our setting and raising environmental awareness among our visitors.
When designing a treetop course, we work in close collaboration with specialists to ensure it has the least possible impact on the forest.
Our courses are designed in a way that does not damage the living tree, which is considered a precious partner. We also inspect our trees every year to ensure their long-term health.
Our courses are also wildlife-friendly. Deadwood kept on the ground creates habitats for small creatures, and the underside of our platforms provides an ideal shelter for nesting birds!
In addition, we recycle as many materials as possible. Pruning waste is used to cover the park's pathways, thereby limiting soil compaction. Restricting and marking out paths promotes forest regeneration, ensuring the forest continues to serve as a carbon sink and a reservoir for biodiversity.
We use local goods and services for the production and maintenance of our courses. Our main partner (construction & equipment) is French.
We are members of the 1action1arbre® label: this allows us to offset our carbon footprint through tree planting.
All trees are planted on French territory, as close as possible to our company, to strengthen our positive environmental impact on a local scale.
The plantings are precisely geolocated: we know where, when, and how many trees have been planted thanks to a traceability system.
Publié sur Google KrisWill Wedding Lovely place- kids had lots of fun- there is refreshments and food to buy. Accessible by bus 4 route, need to walk 5min afterwards. Staff very helpful. We accept all types of payment: online purchase, credit/debit card, cash, ANCV (holiday vouchers), and bank transfers/administrative mandates.
The presence of an adult in the park is mandatory for those under 18. Trails are marked so that progress can be followed from the ground.
Our park is open continuously throughout the day, so you are welcome to book an
activity around lunchtime (when the park is usually less busy). However, if you plan to
have lunch on-site, please do so BEFORE or AFTER your tree-top adventure, as we
are unable to reserve your safety equipment for 1 to 1.5 hours while you are eating.
That said, you're more than welcome to take one or more short breaks during your
activity for an ice cream or a refreshing drink
Smart tip: Have a hearty breakfast before you arrive and enjoy the park during the
quieter lunchtime period—it’s a great way to make the most of your visit!
In summary: Meals cannot be taken in the middle of the tree-top adventure course,
but short breaks are perfectly allowed.
Several concrete actions are implemented:
The objective is to offer an outdoor activity that enhances nature rather than transforming it.
By booking online, you guarantee your equipment and gain faster access to the courses. Whether you are coming from Royan, Saint Palais-sur-mer, La Palmyre, La Tremblade, Marennes, Saintes, or La Rochelle, your adventure starts here!
